Screenshots Mac OSX. Great for the price, with some caveats (8.0.3) 2/14/2013 1:08:00 AM 4/5 By CanMan111 Overall, this is a fantastic product for the price.
It is very similar to Solidworks in many respects, and users of Solidworks will find it easy to get started. For basic 2D and 3D drawing, you can get going very quickly. The software is stable and runs well on my MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM. If you are going to use this tool to have machined parts made, there are a couple of steps you will need that are not in the documentation, and took me a bit of work to figure out. In particular, management of sheets that are generated from 3D drawings is not really covered in the manual, and the addition of dimensions to a sheet that came from a 3D drawing took some experimenting. I was able to figure it out, but it took me a while.
Tech support is non-existent. The company makes it a point to not put any contact information on their web site. So, if you are reasonably good with software, you can probably get what you want from this program. If you are looking for a well-documented product with good tech support, this might not be a good value. It is a good price, but if you can't get it to do what you need, then it is not a bargain at any price.
Complicated, buggy and missing basic functionality (8.0.3) 1/6/2013 2:56:00 AM 2/5 By gerardrj This program has a steep learning curve. Yes, they have on-line tutorials and videos but they blow through the material very quickly and assume you already know how to use the software. I purchased the program to design a house I want to build and the process has been halted frequently with me almost tearing my hair out.
Some of the issues: 1. Inserting a window or door in a wall takes two clicks for no apparently good reason (select wall, select window center). Why can't I just click the wall once to insert a window/door 2. Delete a window or door and a hole is left in the wall. Re-draw the screen, hole stays. At some point the app catches up and re-draws the solid wall but there is no reliable way to cause it to happen 3.
Draw a wall, Draw an intersecting wall. There is no positive indiacator that the walls will be joined, you have to guess and keep fine-tuning the location of one of the walls until it decides to draw the intersection. Want to re-size a wall.
You'd think you could just click the end of the wall and drag it, but no you must drag a box around the end of the wall then drag. The 'Bring to front' and 'send to back' functions simply don't work. Draw a box with fill. Draw a line across the box. You can NOT get the line to draw over the box, it will always go behind the box. Layers don't help at all. Zooming is hyper-active with a Magic Mouse.
Just trying to move the mouse can cause rampant zoom changes. CMD-F (fit to window) is the most common function I use in this application. I frequently can't get the app to quit. It wil start quitting, remove the top tool/status bar then just sit there with one open drawing and no tools.
Either there is no functionality to adjust the transparency of individual components, or the function is fundamentally broken. In trying to find work-arounds for #5 I can't get the transparency of any but one object to change. When you open a file the transpareny setting is ignored until you try to change it, then the object is suddenly drawn correctly again. The auto-3D function is cool, as is the 'auto-roof' but for even general arcitectural design work this program is a chore to use when it works correctly and downright frustrating when it (frequenty) misbehaves. The application simply refuses to properly remember 'recently opened' files. A file I worked on last night and saved does not show in the recent list, but a file I haven't worked on in weeks is there. The auto-3D function is cool, as is the 'auto-roof' but for even general arcitectural design work this program is a chore to use when it works correctly and downright frustrating when it (frequently) mis-behaves.
If you are looking for a program to do any sort of achitectural drawing with, look on and ignore this program.
